Description:
Testosterone propionate is a single ester testosterone compound and represents one of the most important testosterone compounds ever manufactured. When synthetic testosterone was first developed, it was in its pure form with no ester attached, providing a fast-acting compound that required a frequent dosing schedule. In 1937, pharmaceutical giant Schering of Germany released the first testosterone-based ester in testosterone propionate under the trade name Testoviron. By attaching the propionate ester to the hormone, it was possible to control the timing of release and maintain stable blood levels.
During the 1960s, Testosterone Propionate lost popularity to the larger ester Testosterone Cypionate and Enanthate. However, it is still used medicinally today and by high-performance athletes. Outside of performance enhancement, it has found therapeutic uses in the treatment of low testosterone, menopausal problems, chronic cystic mastitis, excessive lactation, and endometriosis.
